1984-1987
by gwhitehallI saw BC st change in the time I was there. I remember we all would play a game of getting one drink at evey bar and would see who made it the furthest down one side of the street. When I fist got there it was hard to do on one side. In 87 it was easy to go up and down the street a few times on both sides. Changed to a one way street too.

I was at Kadena from 87-89. By the time I got there BC Street had been cleaned up, painted white and changed to Chuo Park shopping district. Not many people went there to party. Only few bars were left with Filipina ladies that were on work visas looking for you to sit with them and buy them a $10 drinky. The Kadena Airman’s club was closed and everyone on base went to the Kadena NCO Rocker Club. That place was the awesome for a young 20 something dude looking to party. The cocktail waitresses were all Filipina ladies too. Was packed almost every night and most folks would stay there until 0200 partying, then go downtown to clubs that were called 8-beat(most popular), Apple House, NEO Manhattans and New York-New York. There was many times I would head back to base while the sun was coming up after eating Yaki Soba at Toma’s Restaurant on gate 2 street. Anybody in Okinawa remember this??

I was there from 86 to 88. BC Street was pretty clean when I got there, but there were a few places tucked away where you could get the seediest form of gratification. I definitely remember the P.I. girls wanting you to pay their “barfine.” I was a DJ and spent a lot of time at the Apple House, Ledos, and New York, New York. The Pyramid was an awesome site (as nightclubs went), very hi-tek and state-of-the-art. Recently, I went to a restaurant in my hometown and found that they served Yaki-Tori and Yaki-Soba–gave me instant memories of a place that I tried so hard to get away from, but now I miss it so much. Imagine that. 15th TRS, Kadena AB, Okinawa Japan. I could go on and on. Can’t believe it was 20 years ago. Time flies.

I was there. Great fun most of the time . I bought many Polo shirts and videos down that street by day and got really drunk down there by night . Glad I found this site.

I remember many a morning making my way back through gate 2 on the way to my dorm. I was there from 84-87 at the 18th SUPS. We’d start the night at Moto’s (side street on the way to BC street), then hang out at Cannon club listening to Murasaki. I also remember hitting A-sign, Rolling Stone and Apple House. How about Charlie’s Tacos? Good times!

I ate so many of those tacos that I almost got put on the “fat boy program” !! The grilled ham and cheese and onion rings at the base bowling alley helped too .Anyone remember going to the bowling alley to eat and drink after our late night softball games? You remember …Sgt Baker, Stone , stutts, Carlotti, Younce, Pogue, Jefferies, Steve Williams? Any of y’all out there??? sps 86 to 88 email me bravescatfish@yahoo.com How ’bout you Rhonda ? Remember saving my life that night when I tried to drink myself to death? It’s all good now .
