Virtual Okinawa Blog

I was stationed at Kadena from 84-88, and spent much of the following 2 or 3 years there as a civilian.  I have the greatest memories of living in Okinawa.  Met my best friend “tweety” there, him and I had some great times.  We had a great group of buddies, Mcarthy Macklin, Craig Mclfresh, Terry Arman, just to name a few.   We all worked at the airport, under what was then the 603rd M.A.C.   All the pops that worked with us were great, Mr. Miyagi, Sosei Higa, loved those guys.       Tweety and I used to go to Naha all the time, Kona Garden was such a fun place to party.   Met a lot of hot Japanese girls!!!   and had some really wild times!  Tweety actually met his wife in Naha one night as we were tying to get into Kona Gardens!!   It was the best time of my life to this point, it went way to fast.  Wish I could go back in time and do it all again.    Thanks,   Jim Connor

Went to Okinawa first time when I just turned 20 years old in 1968, TDY to Kadena, 4252 FMS (Hydraulic shop) working 135’s and B52’s for 4 months. I knew I had found paradise. Working 12 hour shifts and partying the rest of the time. Gate 2 st., BC st., Naha, Ishikawa, Nago, and everywhere in between. After I got back to the states all I tried to do was get back. After a few months I went back TDY for another 4 months. Got my PCS orders to Okinawa in the mail. Back to the states, processed out and went back to the 376 FMS and stayed until May 10th, 1972 (5 days before reversion). Went back to the 18 FMS in 1974 and stayed until 1978. Somebody here mentioned Charlies Tacos on BC St., that was one of my favorite places. Made many trips back from 1981-1986 while stationed in the PI. Man, that was a great place in the 60’s and early 70’s. Of course some of the best times of my life. I married an Okinawan (note, not Japanese) girl and we have been married for over 34 years. Okinawa is one of the most beautiful places in all of Japan. Likewise, it’s easy to get the most heartwarming japan pictures by being in Okinawa, just because their culture is such an interesting one. This was the case with these images of Okinawa ungami.

BC Street ran parallel with Gate Two Street in the Koza area, now known as Okinawa City. I offer this information in answer to a question asked earlier. Sorry, that it did not post as a comment to the appropriate blog. My error, but my heart was in the right place. I’ll get better at this in time.

I was stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa from March 1989 to March 1991.  My favorite pastime during my two years there was dancing to live country music at the crow’s nest.  I’m putting this out there to see if I can get in touch with some of my old running buddies.  I had a few Air Force friends, but most of my friends were Marines stationed there.  I’d sure like to hear from anyone out there.  Beth

Was stationed Kadena AB Jan 1982 - Apr 1988 was assigned to 44th AMU / 18AGS. Would like to hear from anyone who was there during that time. Was assigned to the William Tell Team 1986. Beautiful Island loved to Scuba Dive and sight see.  Enjoyed going to BC street on Friday & Saturday nights. Pay day was wild.   

So my brother left for Japan on Monday Aug 20th. we are having problems with his cell phone not working. I was wondering if anyone had any ideals that would help me out! this is his first time over seas and i’m sure its not his last! Thank you

I served in US ARMY June 1958 thru Nov 1959 at Sukiran.

Served with USARYIS Signal Group with duty at Headquarters

Facility.  Arrived there as a PFC and left as Corporal. Played

lot of basketball at Fieldhouse(forgot name) Loved my stay

there although I was away from my family.  Okinawa was

and still is a beautiful place, nice beaches beautiful scenery.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone that may have been

around during this period.  I retire from the Army as a CW4
