Mission Statement
The Okinawa International Clean Beach Club is a volunteer, non-profit, non-governmental organization that performs beach cleanups every third Sunday of the month. It exists to create awareness about marine pollution, to work on solutions for environmental problems, and to educate children and adults about the environment.
Strategy
Stage 1 "I love Okinawa Campaign" to the year 2001
-
1. Beach cleanups every month, focusing on getting more schools involved.
2. Guest appearances at schools and other organizations to increase participation in beach cleanups, and to educate about the environment.
3. Collect data on marine debris, and working with the Prefecture on finding solutions to control pollution problems.
4. Publish a yearly report on marine debris data, with a ten year cumulative report to be published in 2004.
5. Work closely with municipal governments on setting up local projects for environmental protection.
6. Networking with other Environmental organizations.
7. Future Objectives
-
1. Create a Junior Clean Beach Club throughout schools.
2. Work with educators on different ideas and curriculums for environmental education.
3. Create a model area along the National Coastal Park for a marine ranger program, which would be self supportive through eco-tours.
